Kayden Speech Therapy Update

Tuesday 4 December 2018
It's been about 4 months since Kayden has started speach therapy through the government. We got a call at the end of August for Kayden to start speach therapy again. Kayden speach therapy is different than private speech therapy, because it's government funded you don't get an appointment every single week and it's not consistent. What I mean by this is, he gets speach therapy in blocks of 6 weeks and then he gets a break. Kayden finished his speach therapy at the beginning of September and will start again at the end of November.
Kayden is going to a government-funded speech therapist and this has proven to be a lot better than the private speech therapy Kayden was going to before. His speech therapist is amazing and really takes her time with him. She is new to doing this but she has the most creative and fun ideas which keeps him engaged throughout the whole session.
When the session started again she did another evaluation and got an updated idea of what he was struggling with. Every session focuses on one speech issue. For instance, he was struggling with the s sound, one session really focused on him learning to make the sound. What I really liked is she had about four activities that she would do with him within the hour and it was a variety of games and books.
At the end of every session she would send us with homework. I will admit, Kayden was not excited about doing these activities at home. But I sat with him and made him do it, and it really paid off. It wouldn't take longer than five minutes a day, because after that he would start to get frustrated.
One of the things I was concerned about, was Kayden starting school. I didn't want him to go to school and not be able to communicate with his teachers, which would leave him more frustrated. There was an open house in October and I got to speak to the majority of his teachers, and all of them said they were able to understand him. Kayden has three teachers, his kindergarten teacher, teacher's assistant, and an early childhood educator. All three of these teachers informed me he was able to convey how he was feeling and there was never a time that they were unable to understand him. As a mother I was relieved. The teachers even requested a copy of his speech therapy assessment so they would work with him as well.
With Kayden in school, he has picked up a lot of new words and Concepts. He comes home and he is able to tell me about his day and all the fun things he learned. There are times when I don't understand what he is saying but those are far and few in-between now. The speech therapy classes along with him going to school has really help him with his speech and broaden his vocabulary. Speach therapy has really helped us as parents and as a family because not only has it help with Kayden's confidence it has helped us being able to communicate with him more effectively

Kayden will continue to go to speach therapy through this government funded program until he goes to senior kindergarten, at that point the school  board will take over. I took speach therapy in my elementary school and I feel it really helped me. I was a little bit embarrassed because people would ask me where I was going and I would never tell them but looking back on it, I would get teased because I couldn't pronounce certain words correctly and that really bothered me as a child. I tried to draw on my experiences and I talked to Kayden about it and I don't make him feel like he is different. I let him know that he's going to learn more words and it's like a class and it's fun and that is always how he has looked at it

Stay at home mom Schedule

Thursday 8 November 2018

This is the first year I got to participate in all things back to school, I went back to school shopping,  pack lunches for school and have to wake up a four year old that doesn't want to wake up at 7 a.m. . A lot of people asked me before school started whether or not I was going back to work. The short answer, no. It's not because I'm lazy, or I feel as though I shouldn't have to work it's mostly because this is what will benefit my family.
Curtis works at a job where the business hours are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., as a result he is required to work any of those hours on a moment's notice. There are lots of times when Curtis has worked later so he could finish up his work, or have been asked to switch his shift to accommodate another employee. The benefits to this job is that he is able to change his schedule if something was to come up. Because of the hours he is required to work if he would have to change his shift it would be very difficult if I was working. Also, I only have a 4 hour time frame where I would be able to work. Kayden school starts at 8:50 by the time I go home and drive to a job it would most likely be close to 10 a.m. and I would have to leave by 2 p.m. to pick up Kayden at 3:10 p.m. . With me staying at home I have been able to stay on top of Kayden's school, take care of the house, and do all the other tasks that Curtis doesn't have time to do. While many people do not see staying home as a job, it is very time consuming. I remember before Kayden went to school I was looking at stay at home mom schedules to get an idea of what my day would be like so I decided to share my schedule with all of you.

5:30 am
I have been waking up at 5:30 in the morning for about 3 months now. It is the best thing that I ever decided to do. I am the first one up in my house, I get to shower and eat breakfast in peace. I know this doesn't seem like a lot to some people, but every evening I would take a shower and feel rushed. In the evenings is when my friends call or Curtis and I watch TV, I always felt as though I was trying to fit a shower in between a show or trying to end the conversation early so I could go and take a shower. I also use this time to take the dog out because I know I won't be able to do so until 10am.

7:00am -8:20am
I wake Kayden up at 7 a.m. because he takes a while to wake up. During this time Kayden wakes up, he eats breakfast he gets changed and ready for school. I also use this time to put the finishing touches on his lunch and I also do my makeup during this time. Kayden is lazy in the morning so often times he will wake up and go to the living room and lay down for about 15-20 minutes before he finally decides to eat breakfast. I like to get out of the house by 8:20 because the traffic isn't bad at this time and I don't have to wait long for the elevator.

9am to 10am
I get back home from dropping Kayden to school at 9 a.m. I will sometimes eat breakfast at this time if I wasn't feeling hungry when I woke up. I use this time to relax and watch some TV before my day really starts to get busy
10am to 10:45
I take the dog for a walk during this time and I really enjoy it. I love taking walks and it gives buddy great exercise as well.

11am to 11:30
Depending on what I have the night before, sometimes I will eat leftovers for lunch or I will make something quick for lunch. I like to have items for salad in the fridge, or a frozen meal that's really quick to heat up. Before people tell me frozen dinners is not the healthiest, I know that. I like to keep one or two for those days I'm just too tired or feeling extremely lazy. At this time I will eat my lunch and do some dishes

11:30am to 2pm
This is when I get everything done. I make a list every day of things that are a priority and I like to go through my entire list. I clean the house, run errands, and get things done that I would not be able to get done if kayden was home. I also try to cook dinner at this time because I know when Kayden gets home I am so tired and exhausted from going back and forth and being on my feet all day.

2pm to 2:20 pm
i take the dog out for a walk, for the last time before Kayden comes home

2:50-3:30pm
I leave to go and pick up Kayden and come home

3:30pm-5:30pm
When Kayden comes home I like him to use the bathroom and then he has a snack and relaxes, usually wants to watch TV and play some games. While he is doing this I go through his backpack and his lunch containers and read any notes from the teachers or any papers that they have sent home. I try to cook dinner while Kayden is at school, but on the days that I am unable to do so I will cook dinner at this point. I like Kayden to have dinner between 5 and 5:15 and his dad usually comes home between 5:30 and 6

7:00pm
After dinner it's a free-for-all, sometimes Kayden goes to the park sometimes we just hang out as a family. Kayden goes for a bath at 7 p.m., and I like him in bed by 7:30.sometimes he gets a bubble bath if he's in the mood, he puts on his pajamas and we read a book. It is at this point that I get my free time sometimes I will eat dinner if I haven't done so already and I spend about an hour or two catching up on some shows while cleaning up and packing lunches for the next day
Right now this is my schedule and it works really well for me. It allows me to get a lot of stuff done during the daytime when Kayden is at school. I will admit I do feel like I am constantly running around and I don't get a lot of time to sit down and relax. One great thing about Kayden being in school is for holidays and birthdays I'm able to wrap a present and do a lot of planning with him not around. It has helped a lot with just a little miscellaneous tasks that take longer or things that have to wait until he falls asleep, I can do while he is at school.
This is my schedule and roughly how my day goes and as tired as I am I would not have it any other way

How we grocery shop once a month

Tuesday 2 October 2018
I love doing groceries. After having Kayden, I feel as though my time is restricted. Kayden is in speach therapy, he just started junior kindergarten, and he does activities on the weekend during the fall and winter months. I feel as though, lots of parents can relate to me, we just don't have enough time on our hands. As you all know I currently use Walmart grocery pickup service, and it has been a lifesaver. I'm always looking for new ways to save money, but I will be honest, whether I looked on Pinterest or on the Internet I had done all the money saving tips they suggested.
I was constantly coming across blog post where moms talked about doing groceries two times a month, or once a month. This idea intrigued me, Curtis hates going to the grocery store every week, and I would love to go once and be done with it. My family currently shops at Walmart and Costco, we use Costco for the big bulk items, so items we go through quickly and use a lot of, and we use Walmart for the smaller miscellaneous items. The more research I did about doing groceries once a month the more inclined I was to try it.
Doing groceries monthly means that you will need to meal plan for the whole month in advance, luckily for me I already do this. What I would do is plan a meal for 3 weeks and then the last week I usually buy items in bulk so I will have double of some items or I will make big batch meals and freeze it. I usually plan 21 meals a month and have six to seven extra meals. I will also make two grocery list one for Costco and one for Walmart and as I meal plan I will write dow the items that I need, and as I finish items in the house I will add them to the list as well.
A week before doing groceries I will go on the Walmart website and get an idea of how much an item will cost. I have a set budget for $200 a month since the items I do purchase there are not items that I go through quickly / or they're cleaning supplies. I approximately spend $300 a month on Costco where I purchase meat, vegetables, snacks and other items I go through quickly. Believe it or not the $300 goes fast.
Once you have done your groceries for the month the rule is you can only go to the store weekly for fresh fruits and vegetables dairy products and bread. The reason they have said this is because these items you go through quickly and they spoil fast.

Doing groceries once a month has ensured that I have all my meals planned out in advance and I have every single item for a meal. Because my family is on a tight Budget prior to the s some weeks I wouldn't have a big butt into groceries and we would be extremely frugal, and it was hard for us. This allows our family to eat healthy and nutritious meals and it has helped us stay on budget with other things.

Coconut Oil saved my skin

Saturday 1 September 2018
What they say is true. Your skin can change over time. When I was younger my skin was dry. Abnormally dry. I could never put enough lotion on my skin, to make the dryness go away. As I got older my skin completely changed and I became oily. About 10 years ago I was diagnosed with having a sun allergy, at the time, it felt like the worst thing that could have happened. I loved being in the sun and tanning but this was also a great wake-up call for me. I started to learn about the damage I was doing to my skin,  as a result of my skin allergy I had to put on sunscreen every time I went outside and for a while I was taking allergy medication. A few months ago I went to Costco and I got the Kirkland brand of lotion and it said it was hypoallergenic, but my skin got a reaction. I was telling my friend that after using the Kirkland moisturizer I was getting a rash that started on the inside of my elbows and all the way down to my wrist. I was so embarrassed about this rash because it looked abnormal and was itchy so unfortunately I was caving in and scratching. my friend told me about coconut oil and all the great benefits it has and she recommended I use it. she said it did wonders for her and she sent me a link which had a list, I believe it was 66 uses for coconut oil so I decided to take a look and I was shocked at the amount of things that you can do with it. Now I will admit I was a bit hesitant my body and face is sensitive,  and I was pessimistic about whether coconut oil would be able to do anything for my skin. I decided to buy a small container from Walmart to give it a try. I decided to use coconut oil 3 ways as a shaving cream, a body lotion and facial moisturizer. When using it as a shaving cream a little bit goes a long way. it goes into a liquid form upon rubbing it on your skin,  I could not believe the amount of hair that it took off of my legs and arms. My Razor ended up clogging and I had to wash it more frequently than I was used to and I got the closest shave I have ever had in my life. I will say though all the stuff that I did read online was true my bathtub was a little bit Slicker and the hair was sticking to the bottom of my bathtub, as a result I have to clean it more frequently than I was used to. when I was done shaving I initially didn't think I would need to moisturize but my skin got itchy and I knew I had to so I slathered it on my skin and if you wait 5 minutes It'll soak into your skin and stay moisturized and is the most luxurious feeling. My skin no longer feels dry, it is smooth and looks youthful and beautiful it has really changed not only how my face looks but how my body looks as well. I was hesitant about using it as a facial moisturizer because I know if my face did not agree with it I would just break out and I was so happy that I didn't because this is the first time that my skin has really really felt smooth without having to use a product that cost about $30 a bottle.
I purchase a small bottle of coconut oil every month, it cost me under $3 which is perfect for me. I do shop at Costco but when I did compare the price from Walmart to Costco I was getting more bang for my buck. Coconut oil has really changed not only my budget, but has also transformed my body. I do not get any more skin reactions, and my skin feels healthier and looks more alive.

Going Green

Monday 2 July 2018
I never thought I would go the natural route. To be honest, I didnt completly understand it. It wasnt until I was watching a vlog on youtube, that it got my attention. They mentioned that they didnt like the chemical-y smell of regular cleaners, and I thought 'Neither do I!'.
Since having Kayden I have definitely started cleaning more, and trying to make better choices for the family. I hate the idea of chemicals around my child and dog. I feel like I am constantly cleaning, I dont know if it's because I live in an apartment, but there is always dust and dirt. Everything i would clean I always felt like the chemicals were getting in my mouth and I was eating it. On top of that, my building cleans with PineSol (Curtis' favorite), so I always felt like it smelled like a business not a home.
I kept seeing Mrs. Meyers and Method cleaners all over vlogs. I decided to look up the benefits about green cleaners, and as soon as i did I was completly changed. Kayden touches everything and puts his mouth on everything, to think the amount of chemicals that is going in his mouth is disgusting and scary. I want to provide a safe and chemical free house as much as I can. I spoke to curtis about it and he agreed. I decided to purchase their All Purpose cleaner from our local Longos. As soon as I sprayed it, I was hooked. My house smelled amazing and it cleaned just as good if not better then my old cleaner. I know what you are thinking, but the scent goes away. you are right, but it takes a long time before it does.

I am on my third bottle and I dont think im stopping anytime soon. I am looking into their other products since I am hooked. I am currently trying to finish my antibacterial spray, which wasn't my favorite.
The only thing that bothers me, is how expensive it is, one bottle of all-purpoae spray is about $5. It isnt easy on my budget, but I try to purchase it whenever I can. I like to think I'm paying a little bit more money to save the environment. One thing I have learned about other cleaning products is all the chemicals that you use to clean your house and do dishes goes down the drains and affects the pipes and water systems. On top of that, all these chemicals that we use in our house is not safe for children. I have seen online a lot of people struggle with the idea of using natural cleaners for one of two reasons, first is the price, and the other reason is the stigma behind it. A lot of people question whether or not it will clean as good as regular cleaners, and I will admit I was one of those people.
A great way to discover green cleaning products without having to break the bank is taking the path that I took. I bought one cleaning product and use it until the bottle was done. This allows me to focus on one product at a time and really get to know the product. I got to see how well it cleaned how practical it wasn't my day-to-day life and if it lived up to all of its claims. Once I was done with the one product if I liked it I would be purchasing it which is what I did with the method cleaners. Then I moved on to another product in my case I moved on to dish soap and that is how I slowly integrated green products in my life and got to see if they were able to do what I wanted to do.

Our Journey with Speach Therapy

Friday 1 June 2018
i am like every other mother. I dont want to beleive that there could potentially be something wrong with my child. Kayden was on track for everything, and in some aspects he was faster with certain milestones, so me and his dad didn't see anything out of the ordinary. It wasnt until a year and a half we started to see his speech slow down, and closer to Kayden turning three it started to pick up again.

Curtis and I agreed that we would find a family doctor for him, since his pediatrician retired and closed his practice. Since that happened we had a hard time finding a family doctor/pediatrician. Pediatricians in my area stopped taking infants/toddlers that were deemed as normal i.e. didnt need extra care and wernt in the nicu. That was not Kaydens situation, so they wouldnt take him on. It took us awhile to find a family doctor we liked, and when we met up with him for Kaydens 3 year old check up, he didnt feel as though anything was wrong. I had a feeling something was off with his speech so I pushed seeing a specialist. I was told that it may take awhile before a therapist calls me. It was about a month before I got a phone call, which consisted of the therapist getting background info about kayden and seeing what his speech level was. After a 5 minute convo she advised me it would be about a 6 month wait.

We got a phone call close to 6 months from a private speech clinic. Normally we would have to pay for this service but because we got referred we didnt have to ( Thank God).

The first appointment consisted of all of us going. Curtis and I went into the room first and expressed our concerns as well as answering some general questions about Kayden. the therapist asked us about his communication and how he is with other kids. Next Kayden came in and she asked him to do some mouth movements, this allowed her to see if Kayden was capable if making certain noises and move his mouth a certain way. Then she asked Kayden to say certain words, this allowed her to see what speech patterns Kayden has trouble with. Lastly she asked kayden to point certain things out in pictures which tested his ability to understand.

Kayden then left the roon and we were able to have another conversation with the therapist.

We had 3 more sessions with the therapist 2 weeks apart. Our first session the therapist gave us a copy of the report that she would be sending to the original speech clinic. We also got a better idea of what speech patterns kayden had trouble with. The next 3 sesssions focused on different speech patterns.

Fast forward to today, Curtis and I can see a difference with Kayden. Even though we are at the  beginning of this journey, we can definetly see a difference. kayden is pronouncing letters a lot better and speaking more. Because he has certain sounds down, it has been easier for him to learn similar words. There have been many times when I have said a word and kayden has said it back to me, or even surprised me and said words all by himself.

Curtis has even noticed a lot more self confidence. Kayden says hi to other kids and is the first one to engage with other kids.

Seeing kayden be more verbal has eased a lot if my concerns, the main one him going to kindergarten. I was worried that the other kids wouldnt be able to understand him, or even worse, his teacher.

Now I see Kayden picking up a lot more words, from just listening. He loves doing his activity books and learning new words. I also noticed recently that he is putting 3 words together, which is where he should be. These small milestones have made big strides in his ability to communicate more efficiently.

i cant stress enough how important it is to trust your intuition, ask the appropiate questions and dont be afraid to push for something. once I learned what was holding Kayden back it made it easier for me to be able to teach him how to pronounce certain words. I have better tools and techniques to help him get to the next level.

Maybelline New York FitMe foundation Review

Wednesday 2 May 2018

why is finding a good foundation so difficult?

It took me years before I found one that I couldnt live without. But if you know me, you know I barely wear foundation. Being a stay at home mom, my days consist of being makeup free and wearing comfy casual clothes. But on the weekends, we are out and about, and have friends  popping over. And who wants to wear a $48 foundation for that? I admit, I love my estee Lauder stay in place foundation, but I slowly realized, a drugstore foundation may be my best bet for day to day, or in my case, weekend wear.

i was heaistant to buy a drugstore foundation. even though i knew formulas have changed and improved I was afraid of buying it.

I figured if it has been on my mind for weeks, I might as well try it. I decided to try Maybelline New York Fit me Foundation. I had tried it in University, but at that time I didnt know anything about make up. I applied the foundation incorrectly and on top of that it oxidized a lot on my skin. After exchanging a few bottles, I gave up, and wrote it off.

FitMe foundation retails for $6.97 at my local Walmart, and you cant go wrong with that price. I figured if it didnt work I would only be out a few dollars. I got Matte and Poreless in shade 220. I get extremely oily on my nose and forehead and if a foundation can keep it at bay, then it is a keeper.

The packaging is sleek and comparable to higher end foundations

It is a short rectangle bottle packaged in glass with a black twist off lid. There is no pump, which i personally prefer. I always pour a little on the back of my hand and add more if i need it, which i usually do.

the first time I tried this foundation I wanted to test it in its natural element. I tested it on my skin, without primer, concealer or powder. We had a family friend coming over, so I knew I would have it on for a few hours, which would give it enough time for my skin to get oily. I wore it for about 7 to 8 hours, and I could definitely see oil peeking through. It wasn't horrible though.

The next few times I wore the FitMe foundation I applied concealer, powder, blush and bronzer.
Claims

mattify and refine pores for a natural and seamless finish

micropowders controls shine and blurs pores

leaves a natural seamless finish

Pros
I applied the foundation with a beauty blender and it melted into my skin. I got shade 220 and it was a perfect match. It had a natural finish and a 'my skin but better' look about it.

My bronzer and blush blended perfectly on top. I set everything with my Urban Decay setting spray and my makeup lasted. I did see oil peeking through at around 4 hours (a little earlier then they claimed), but a blotting sheet did the trick.

Cons
I did notice the foundation breaking up on my nose when I wore it for 12 hours one day. Unlike my higher end foundations it transfers onto clothing which is my pet peeve.
I would definetly give this foundation a 4/5.  this foundation is great for people who are just starting out with wearing makeup or want a no fuss foundation. it gives you buildable coverage so you can determine if you want light or full coverage. It is reasonably priced and does a great job of giving you a natural look.

Air Wick Freshmatic Life Scent Review

Monday 2 April 2018

Let's be honest. No one likes a smelly house. And no one wants to visit a smelly house.

A few weeks ago we were at Walmart and we decided to visit the air freshner aisle. We usually do grocery pickup, so for us to browse to aisles, is a big thing.

We came across Air Wick Freshmatic and we reminisced about another version we had, by Glade. We couldn't find the refils for the Glade one we had, so we decided to purchase a new one.

Our Kitchen and living room, aren't cut off, nor is it open concept, it is a happy medium. Whenever we cook, it is easy for scents to take over the house, whether it is good or bad. I use to use the febreeze sprays every evening, but that easily gets exhausting and time consuming. I wanted something that was easy, and i didnt have to think about it.

The air wick freshmatic is a life saver. It is black and very sleek looking, and blends in perfectly with our decor. There are three different settings, so you can choose what is best for your home. We currently have it on the second setting which sprays about every 30 minutes.

It operates using batteries, which can get a bit pricey, but we have had it for about a month and havent had to change the batteries or the refill. We currently have the scent 'moms baking' which is one of my favorites. It reminds me of warmth and family, and you get all the perks of freshly baked goods without the mess and hassle.

The only downside, is the sound it makes everytime it sprays. I jumped everytime it went off for about a week or two. It is a loud 'psssttt' noise, which can get annoying, but after awhile you learn to zone it out.

The starter kit retails for $9.97 canadian and it comes with one refill.

Getting Kayden Ready for JK

Tuesday 6 March 2018

first day of school can be scary. Especially if you are starting school for the first time in your life. Kayden has been at home with me for 3 years, and will be starting kindergarten right before his 4th birthday.

as parents, we want to make the transition to kindergarten as seamless as can be. we have been working with him to become more independent, stepping up the potty training etc. The only thing we havent been able to give kayden is a school environment with kids. Thank goodness for the community center. We had enrolled Kayden in one activity in the fall , and really enjoyed the setup of it and most importantly, the price.

I found an activity which helps toddlers prepare for kindergarten. It mimics a classroom and does similar activities. There are about 15 children in Kaydens class, accompanied by 1 teacher. When the children enter the class they have about 5 minutes to play. Then it is circle time, which consists of the teacher reading a story. Afterwards they do a craft, one week Kayden did a Valentine's themed one, and this past week be did an easter one. Then it is back to play time. Everytime the children are playing the teacher spends a few minutes setting up an activity then she interacts with the children. the last activity they do is more focused on education, matching, counting etc. Right before class ends they sit in a circle and do an interactive song and then they gather up their work and go home.

the goal of the class is for parents to drop off the kids then walk out, similar to what you would do in kindergarten. The teacher will suggest when you should leave the room, and every class she wants you to leave earlier and for longer periods of time.

We stayed for the first class and never left. At the second class we left within 5 minutes, and kayden didn't seem to care. he was fine by himself, and didnt care that we wernt in the room. I was so relieved. I always worry whether or not kayden would feel comfortable with a teacher, and how long it will take him to get to that point. i was glad to see him playing alongside other kids. there are kids at all different levels, which helps kids bounce off of each other. unlike his last activity, there is a lot more interaction and doing things together. there will be two or three kids playing with one toy, and they will work on it together/play together, then clean it all up together.

Because kayden's speach isn't at the level it should be (which he is getting help for), i often worry about his transition to kindergarten. it is refreshing to hear other parents talk about their children and their fears as well. Seeing Kayden playing with other kids and following the teacher's instructions eased my mind. Since I can see in the classroom, it eased my concerns. Kayden transitioned perfectly (even if its for an hour), and loves going. He loves doing the activities, and there are toys there he has never seen, so that is also a plus.

I would reccomend these kind of programs to all the mamas/parents out there. I know a lot of parents can not afford daycare/preschool (not practical on one income at $1000 a month), so see if your city offers programs to help with the transition.

Branded Survey's Review

Monday 12 February 2018
i did a post a few weeks ago, about ways to make extra money and receive free products. I recently discovered a new survey site, which I have been using for about a month now, called Branded Surveys.

how it works

Like most survey sites, you fill in your basic information and you give some background information. They will send you a survey invitation in the mail, which tells you approximately how much time it will take and how many points it is worth. Every 100 points equals $1. You go through a general screening process before actually taking the survey, which takes about a minute. if you don't qualify some of them will give you some points ( the most I have received is 30 points), and if you do your points are pending. They state it takes about 14 days for your points to get posted, during this time they verify your responses, ensuring you were actually taking the survey and not rushing through it and giving random answers.

when you look at your points section, there will be two sections, one for points that have posted and one for pending points.
So far i have made about $30, and i have some points pending. There have been a few days when I didn't qualify for any surveys which gets disheartening. It feels like it takes forever for points to add up, but in reality it isn't so bad. a lot of other survey companies make you redeem "cash" for gift cards, which doesn't add up. for instance redeem $75 for $25 gift card.

I have joined other sites which have cash payouts, and it takes forever to meet their minimum requirement. I met the minimum payout amount, which is $10 within 2 weeks.

im not expecting to get rich off of it. but it gives me something to do in the day. and a lot of the times, the surveys have to do with things in the news, healthcare, government etc.  it is pretty cool to give my opinion on currents issues, and be Impacting change in my country.

Valentine's Day with a toddler

Valentines Day is just around the corner. Like most parents, Valentine's Day has changed for Curtis and I. We have never made a big deal about it, since Curtis isn't a big fan of the holiday. Instead I have used this day to eat some indulgent meals.

As Kayden has gotten older, Valentine's Day has become special. We always get Kayden tons of chocolate and some extra goodies. Lately Kayden has been loving painting, I have even used it as an incentive for staying dry the whole day. If kayden doesn't wet his underwear then he gets to paint at the end of the day before he has a bath. Needless to say, we are running low on paint! we purchased Kayden some glitter paint. i thought it would be a nice change from his regular colors. And we can't forget about chocolate. Kayden loves candy, so this is a perfect time to restock his stash. yes I said it, he has a stash. Before you all judge me, we use it as an incentive. For instance we want Kayden to communicate that he needs to use the bathroom. Kayden tells us when he needs to poo, but never when he has to pee. Now if he tells us, then he gets a chocolate of his choice. It is small but it is something he looks forward to, and it is how we have slowly moved through each stage and step of potty training. Kayden has requested jelly beans and little chocolate hearts. The great thing about it, is that he knows WE are giving it to him, unlike Christmas which was Santa. Now if he misbehaves I  just say I wont buy you X Y and Z.

Valentines Day is such a fun and carefree holiday. It was never a day that Curtis and I emphasized, and because of that I made it more about Kayden. About celebrating him, and giving him a few things that I knew he would enjoy. I went to the Dollar Store last weekend and they had the cutest things, stickers, pencils, coloring books, games etc. and they were all valentine themed. You do not need to spend a lot of money to make the day fun or worthwhile.
for Valentine's Day we are going to stay home, which should be no surprise. Curtis works mornings now, so I will be in charge of Kayden's present. Kayden has been into helping me a lot, especially in the kitchen. I thought I would do a special surf and turf dinner, and red velvet cupcakes. I know Kayden will be all over the baking, and insist on being a part of every step. Of course there will be some special goodies (jelly beans and chocolate, as per kayden's request), that will make the day special for him.

valentines Day is a fun holiday, that should can used to tell anyone in your life that you care about them. I am a strong believer that you don't need to spend a lot of money, small, simple gestures are enough.

Sephora Lip Luster Review

Tuesday 23 January 2018
we all know how convenient online shopping is. you can do it from anywhere, anytime of day. I had recently run out of my makeup setting spray and had to purchase a new one. Sephora is my go to place for makeup. of course the item i wanted was sold out, so i had to settle for another bottle. And, I also didn't meet the $50 for free shipping. So i headed over the sale section, and browsed. there is something about purchasing high end makeup at a lower price that makes me happy.
As soon as I saw lip products on sale i couldnt resist. Sephora's Lip Luster Matte was on sale, and I was curious. i am not big on gloss since I prefer an all matte face, i feel like any dewiness makes me look oily! i decided to give this lip product a try after reading the reviews, they described it as a lipstick with a light sheen.

The packaging itself is sleek and compact, like most Sephora products. The lip product is small, but i never run out of lip products, so that is not an issue.

the shade I purchased is Fig Luster. i thought it would be a neutral shade on me, but it was a bit dark.

The formula is creamy and glides on beautifully. the applicator is small but easy to use. For me, this lipstick is long lasting, but it does not dry out my lips. it is not like a liquid lipstick where it dries and stays in place, so it is easy to move around which can be a pro and a con. I have put this lipstick on a few times and I have never had any issues with it. it is a beautiful fall/winter color, and my boyfriend always compliments me whenever i wear it.

This lip product is one i would definetly purchase again. it stayed on all day, and gives me a perfect balance of a matte lip and a glossy lip.

I Would rate Sephora Lip Luster lipstick a 9/10. As i mentioned before the lipstick does not stay in place, which i prefer if i am getting a liquid lipstick lipstick. while they call it a lip color, all their similar products that they recommend are liquid lipsticks. This color lasted me all day, and my boyfriend gave me a compliment on my lip color, which he never does. The price point is perfect, it only cost me $7 on sale and regular price is $20.

No More Naps!

Monday 15 January 2018
I feel like it has been so long since i did a mommy post. I have been reviewing so many beauty products, that i started to miss writing about being a Mommy.
I did a post awhile ago about some of the troubles i was experiencing with kayden. One of the big issues was his sleeping. He would always take his nap, but he would never sleep at night. It was frustrating and exhausting. I never got any time to myself, whenever he was awake so was i, and i was getting more and more exhausted.
Curtis and i had discussed taking away his naps, but i felt it was to soon. I also struggled with not getting adult time. If i have learned anything from being a mom, it is how important my ME time is.
We decided to attempt taking naps away during one weekend. I will admit, having Curtis there helped. He could man the meltdowns while i cooked, which proved to be difficult during weekdays. That weekend, Kayden went down with no issues. He didn't come out of his room 50 times, and bedtime wasn't extended another two hours. Kayden did eventually wake up (and still does), but it is after a few hours, or if he hears a loud noise.
The thing about our apartment, is the kitchen and living room lights shine down the hallway, which means kayden can see light when he lays down. We usually wait till he is asleep before we turn on the lights. sometimes this can be an issue, because our dinner use to get delayed. now he knocks out immediately which allows us to do anything we need to do.

That was one of the great things about eliminating naptimes, his body was ready to go to bed. By the time I walked out of his room, he was knocked out.

When kayden would wake up, it was easier to put him back down. he would be half awake and barely have his eyes open , so we would pick him up and lay him back down. he usually does fall back asleep.
Daytime is the hardest part. Kayden was getting tired around the five and a half hour mark, which was when he would usually go down for a nap. I was running out of ideas with how to keep him occupied. Kayden was having meltdowns from 2:30pm till about 6pm (when i would give him a bath). I was exhausted. Kayden usually goes down at 7:15pm but i couldn't wait.

After a month, i started to notice Kayden getting tired later and later. It eventually went to 3:30pm. Soon the blood curling cries and never ending temper tantrums ended.
Fast forward to today. Kayden doesnt get tired till about 3:30-4pmish. This is such a big improvement. This is normally the time i would start dinner, but now i have to multitask to make sure kayden doesnt fall asleep. On the days he has dozed off for about 30min to an hour, it is pure hell at nightime. It goes back to taking hours for him to go to bed. On the days he does stay awake (which is 99.

9% of the time), he goes down in a snap. I even talked to kayden about his naps, and he says he likes that i took them away and he just sleeps at night.
i do find that i am able to get more done in a shorter amount of time as well. for instance when running errands i do not need to come home by a certain time to ensure that he goes down for a nap, but i can get everything done then he can come home and relax.

i will admit i am much more exhausted then i was before. the one thing about kayden, is that he is always on the go. he is playing with his toys, dancing around, wanting to craft etc. it is rare that he sits down in one spot and i can have a breather.

Now that Kayden gets 10- 12 hours of sleep at night, i find he is in a better mood and his body is getting the rest it needs. i really started to realize how he would just eat because he was tired, and his mood swings were caused by him being tired.  For the most part my days fly by, and the best part, sometimes Kayden will tell me he is tired and wants to go to bed. His body wants rest, and he doesn't feel the need to hide it anymore or feel like he is missing out on something.

Olay 4 in 1 Water Activated makeup wipes Review

Sunday 7 January 2018
Taking off my makeup is one of the best feelings in the world. Don't get me wrong, i love makeup, but after having kayden i don't wear it as often, but one thing i have always love doing is removing my makeup.

I have always had a love hate relationship with makeup wipes. The first one's that i tried was the Neutrogena all in one wipes. I tried two different types and i wasn't in love. It irritated my skin and i always felt like i needed to moisturize my skin after. I was really into working out at the time, so all i wanted to do was wipe my face and be out the door.
I got a sample from Wal-Mart for Olay's daily facials, 4-in -1 water activated wipes. I will admit, i was skeptical.
I had gone to a birthday party that night, which means i had quite a bit of makeup on. I figured if i was going to test it out, this would be the time to do so.

Claims

Removes dirt, oil and makeup. Removes mascara 2x then basic cleansing

Gently exfoliotes and smooth skin texture in less then one week.

Condition skin with essential olay conditioners.
I took the washcloth out and dampened it under the tap. I was skeptical at first. I didnt believe this one washcloth would be able to do anything significant. But i was wrong. It was a miracle. I will start off by saying that it took off ALL my makeup. Granted i could have used two to be extra cautious, but one did the trick. One of my favorite things about these wipes is that it is safe to use around the eyes. When i go full glam, i wear a lot of eye makeup, multiple eyeshadows, eyeliner and mascara( top and bottom). For these wipes to remove all of it, says a lot.  Especially when you do a full face, contour, blush etc. I can honestly say that this one cloth took everything off. Other cloths would take off my makeup and strip off everything from my face. My face would feel dry, and dull. These olay wipes did the exact opposite, it was gentle and incredibly moisturizing. In winter my face goes completely dry, and im always struggling to keep it moisturized.

Whenever i come back from an event, i always hop into the shower, and wash my face two times. Yes, i know, it sounds like a lot, but i never feel like my face is completely clean. Using the olay wipes, it was the first time in awhile that i didn't feel the need to do that.
I don't know if i would say that it exfoliated my skin, if it did, i didnt notice. If you are an olay fan, you will be thoroughly satisfied with this product. I would give this product a 9/10. For me to feel satisfied after using a makeup wipe, says a lot.

The 4 in 1 wipes retail for $6.97 for a pack of 33 at walmart.
