Hey guys,
This post is all about how i organize my fridge and cupboards. To be honest i didn't even think about how they were organized until i had kayden. I needed to access items quickly, because a crying baby/toddler who is demanding is not willing to wait. I also saw a show on tv which discussed the importance of placing items in your fridge in the appropriate place. This ensures that the items stay fresh for longer and don't absorb any excess odors.
Im going to start with my fridge. Because i live in an apartment i don't have the luxury of buying my own appliances. As a result my fridge is smaller then the average one, which makes being organized even more important.
On the side of the fridge i put easy to access items. Items that i use daily but not multiple times a day. I keep my creamers all together as well as syrup for Kayden's milk. Curtis likes flavored creamer and i prefer half and half. Kayden recently got more into flavored milk, which is why i have syrup. I don't buy juice since no one really drink it in the house but i also don't was deprive kayden of sweet drinks.
Beside that compartment i have Kayden's easy access snacks. Kayden Is obsessed with cheeses so i always try to have cheese strings for him. I love them because they are easy for him to eat and they they are portion controlled. Kayden goes back and forth with yogurt (right now he wants nothing to do with it). I always keep condiments there. Because easter just happened i have a stash of chocolate there. Our apartment is hot and all the chocolate will melt if i leave it out. So i put all his chocolate bars there and moved his snacks to other parts in the fridge.
On the middle shelf i keep leftover food and meats. This shelf is used numerous times in the day and is accessed by only me. Because curtis works 5x a week i pack his lunch and i heat up Kayden's and i lunch (since we are at home). I also do all the cooking so this is a convenient place for it. The top shelf is where i like to keep our drinks and condiments which we don't use often. I keep the condiments at the back (mayo, relish etc.) And i keep the milk, water, beer and wine on the top shelf. Those are items we access numerous times a day. Kayden loves milk and curtis loves cold water.
As you can see there are some food dishes on the top shelf. This doesn't normally happen, but i made a lasagna last week and the tray is taking up half of my shelf.
My cupboard are a bit different. I place items based on how often i access them. On the bottom shelf i have all of Kayden's snacks on the left side. Kayden has at least 2 snacks a day and as he is getting older abd more active sometimes he needs 2 items instead of 1. I have all his snack within easy access so when he is fussing i can grab them fast. The middle if the shelf has all my spices. I grew up in a culture where spices were used in everything and im so thankful that curtis grew up the same way. I always have spices ready to go and i buy them at bulk barn which means i geta great deal! On the far right side i have curtis's and I snacks, which is usually crackers and granola bars (nothing exciting).
The middle shelf is where i keep my baking ingredients ( obsessed) as well as my sprinkles and baking cups. I like to bake once a week for a special homemade treat but during the summer months, i so it even less. It gets so hot in the apartment that isn't worth it. Beside that i keep my cans and sauces. I always like to be stocked up on the essentials ( beans, hot sauce and beans). On the far right i keep all my teas and medicine. I use this area more then anyone in the house. I love having tea and is a great alternative to coffee when you want the warmth of a drink without all the caffeine
The top shelf is where i keep the items i rarely use, maybe once a week (if you are lucky). I keep cornstarch, pancake mix and pasta.
I admit organizing your cupboards and fridge is not fun. But once you do it the first time, it is easier to keep it up , and you will tha k yourself later. Everyone's cupboards sill be different based on what their needs are. As kayden gets older and as our family needs change im sure mine will!

I have a butter compartment on top and beside that i keep condiments from when we order food.
On the bottom shelf i keep
all my dairy products i.e. milk, cheese and yogurt. I learned that dairy products absorb the smell in your fridge, therefore keeping it on the bottom shelf ensures that this doesn't happen.
As you can see there are some food dishes on the top shelf. This doesn't normally happen, but i made a lasagna last week and the tray is taking up half of my shelf.
